What Sheboygan needs

The past couple of years the City of Sheboygan has been mired in turmoil and disfunction. It has resulted in the instability of key city staff positions (Finance Dept, HR Director, City Administrator, Director of Planning and Development and staff) 8 of 10 Aldermen have been sued, and one Alderman representing the 2nd District has been censured. This all reflects very poorly on the residents of Sheboygan and those outside looking to locate to or invest in Sheboygan. Frankly it is quite embarrassing.

What John brings

John's past Aldermanic experience was quite successful. Economic development boomed; yearly financial surpluses allowed us to significantly reduce City debt. He led the charge to reduce taxes paid by City residents. He authored the resolution to eliminate “Special Assessments for street projects” saving residents excessive fees. He also authored the resolution to reduce the size of the Common Council saving tax dollars.

Issues Needing Immediate Attention

Memorial Hospital site

Ensure that the Memorial Hospital site is developed in a manner that fits within the existing character and charm of the historic neighborhood. Do not allow Aurora or the City to dictate what the neighborhood should accept. Gain consensus from the neighbors before any plan or development is agreed to.

Economic development

The City and Common Council need to have a laser focus on new economic development. This has been woefully lacking the past couple of years. The South Pointe Industrial Park is virtually empty generating zero tax income. We have spent millions of dollars on infrastructure and utilities for this site. The debt incurred needs to be paid and we have no tenants.

Marina and lakefront

There is a proposal to spend between 11 – 13 million dollars on this project. This is a significant sum of money. John will ensure that the Marina and Lakefront Revitalization plan makes sense and benefits everyone. John will make sure that the plan is fiscally responsible, and the dollars spent are maximized.
